Business case model for the use of four different tidal power plant options. It estimates the total costs over its complete life cycle of 30 years. The model includes data of ten locations with high tidal power potential and production.

The model compares the following turbines:

  • Oceade by Alstom
  • Tocardo by Tocardo
  • SeaUrchin by Elsa Global
  • Openhydro by DCNS

For above mentioned solutions the NPV is determined in the different situations. An NPV calculation helps the user to make the investment decision under uncertainty. The model includes basic engineering calculations with regard to the revenue of the plants on various locations.

Maintenance is estimated per component and maintenance cost include both estimated repair and downtime of the equipment. Weather and MetOcean data helps to estimate the available weather windows required to repair and maintain the equipment. Both Capex and Opex are estimated based on a component breakdown structure.

It includes a Monte Carlo simulation the shows the impact of changes in assumptions in the investment case of a tidal power plant.
